The authorship of Gamiani has long been attributed to Alfred Musset and Georges Sand [the second part] but never proven. The first edition, published in Paris 1833, was a large but slim volume of 26 pages with 12 lithographs in b/w attributed to Achille Dev?ria and H. Grevedon. The text itself was printed in columns, reproduced by lithography from a calligraphic manuscript. Since the first edition, Gamiani has been re-published and translated numerous times and continues to be published to this day.
The checklist covers only those French editions published between 1833 and 1950. The entries are sorted by the year shown on the title page, even though the edition may have been published later (or earlier); and where that's known it will be noted in brackets. If the title page lacks a year but an estimated date of publication is known the estimated date is used. Those titles without a date and without an estimated publication date are listed at the end of the checklist.
In-12. 2 volumes. 16 lithographs(?).
(Bibliothèque Nationale: ENFER-421. Rose: 1898 (B.A.153))
In-4 (345 X 255 mm). 2 volumes. Continuous pagination from [ 1 ] to 13 and 15 to 26pp. Pictorial buff wrappers. Lithographic text in double columns. Printed on vergé paper with horizontal chain lines (pp.1-18 and 23 to 26), and on vellum paper (pp.19 with 22). Issued with twelve hand-colored lithographs attributed to Achille Devéria and P.L.H. Grevedon.
Note the word "Une" in the title. In subsequent editions "Deux" is used. It is thought that each volume (and the pages?) may have been printed and/or issued separately over a period of time.
The copy at Kinsey contains the plates in both colored and uncolored states. Additionally, there are thirteen watercolors appended to the end; they are attributed to B. de Baudervalle on the spine and in a ms. note on flyleaf.
